the home page, or the page you plan to share on launch day.

  2. 2

every problem comes with what to change. run it again until it is green.

what it checks

  • the page loads for a visitor who is not signed in, over https
  • how fast your server starts answering
  • a title and a description of the right length for search results
  • one clear main heading
  • a share picture that really loads, at the size X and LinkedIn want
  • the tags for a large card on X
  • a browser tab icon
  • the page is set up for phones
  • search engines are not blocked by a leftover noindex
  • a canonical address

why check your website before you launch

launch day is when the most people see it at once

On a normal day a problem on your site is seen by a handful of visitors. On launch day everyone arrives in the same few hours, and whatever is broken is the first thing all of them see. A check the day before costs you a few minutes. Finding the same problem from a stranger's comment costs you the launch.

the problems that hurt most are the ones you can not see

You look at your site signed in, on your own computer, in the browser you built it in. A missing description, a share picture that does not load, or a noindex tag left over from development all look fine from there. They only show up in a search result or in the card when someone shares your link, which is exactly where new visitors meet you.

search engines and link previews read a different page than you do

They do not see your design. They read the page as your server sends it and the tags in its head: the title, the description, the picture, the canonical address. If those are empty or wrong, a beautiful page is still shared as a bare link and listed in search with text the search engine picked for you. This check reads your page the same way they do.

small fixes, large effect

Most of what this check finds takes minutes to fix. Adding a share picture changes how your link looks everywhere it is posted. Removing a stray noindex is the difference between being in search results and not being there at all. Tightening a title decides which words a searcher sees first. None of it is hard. It only has to be done before people arrive, not after.

what the score is, and what it is not

The score tells you whether the basics a launch depends on are in place. It says nothing about whether your product is good, and a perfect score will not make people want it. Think of it as the pre-flight list: it does not fly the plane, it makes sure nothing obvious stops you taking off.

questions

Is the check really free?

Yes. There is no account, no email field and no limit on how many of your own pages you check. We only slow down a visitor who runs a great many checks in a few minutes.

What does the score mean?

Each check counts in full when it passes and for half when it could be better. 85 or more with nothing in red means the basics are in place. It is a measure of launch readiness, not of how good your product is.

Why does it say there is no heading when my page has one?

We read the page as your server sends it, before any scripts run. If your site is drawn in the browser by JavaScript, that first page can be almost empty, and search engines and link previews may see the same thing we did.

Do you store my website or the results?

No. The page is read once to produce your result and nothing about it is saved.

My site passed. Where should I launch it?

ShipDesk.dev is a launch board for solo founders: your product gets its own page, a link to your site and a full week on the board. Launching is free and takes about a minute.
